To answer both questions, we need to do some simple reasoning.
Of all the values above, the most useful one is “20 simultaneous PHP processes”.
When a new visitor types www.yoursite.com, a process opens, which closes when the page has fully loaded. So the duration of the process depends on the loading time of your site, i.e. how fast it is.
20 concurrent processes means that 20 people can open your site at the exact same time. From the twenty-first, they have to wait for a process to become free in order to view your site.
In reality, however, it is not possible for people to all click at exactly the same time, so it is more useful to calculate how many visitors you can have in a minute.
In the case of an optimized site WE CAN CALCULATE:
- homepage loading time = 2 seconds.
- simultaneous php processes per second (number of processes/seconds) = 20/2 => 10
- simultaneous processes per minute = 10 x 60 => 600
In this scenario, if your homepage had a load time of 2 seconds, you would have 600 concurrent php processes per minute, which translates to 600 concurrent visitors per minute.
