How to manage backups with JetBackup

Hi all!
Let’s see how to use the amazing tool called JetBackup!

First important information: JetBackup is designed to create backups, and automatically restore all all of them except 2: Full account and email backups. In order to restore these backups, you’ll have to manually reinstall the files created by JetBackup in each specific section.

HOW TO CREATE AND RESTORE BACKUPS, SECTION BY SECTION.

JetBackup automatically creates both full and partial backups of what is into your cPanel. The backups are generated daily and stored for 30 days.

QUEUE: here is where you download your backup, after you have generated them.
1. go to the section of what you want to backup (let’s say database).
2. click “generate download”
3. go to “Queue” and wait for the backup to be generated, and download it.

You can download 1 backup at at a time: if you trigger a new “generate download” before you have downloaded the previous backup, the system will stop generating the previous backup and will start with a new one.

SNAPSHOTS: create a backup instantly
The only way to get a backup of a precise moment, is by creating a snapshot.
The snapshots will create a FULL ACCOUNT BACKUP.

FULL ACCOUNT BACKUPS
A full account backup is a zip file that contains everything that JetBackup is able to backup.

HOW TO RESTORE A FULL ACCOUNT BACKUP?
A better question is how NOT to restore it: you cannot simply upload it. The zip file contains sub-folders with other zip files for each section. You will have to choose what to restore, and do it with its specific tool (Phpmyadmin, file manager, DNS zone editor, etc).

FILE BACKUP
This is brilliant! Click and on the following page simply select the folders you want to backup.
Have you accidentally messed up a folder via ftp? You can select and download the daily backup of each single folder.

HOW TO RESTORE THE FILES?
Upload them with the File Manager or ftp account or simply select the folder(s) you want to restore, and click “restore“.

EMAIL BACKUPS
This tool will create a backup of your email files.
1. Locate the date and the email account you want to backup
2. Generate and Download backup from Queue.

HOW TO RESTORE THE EMAIL?
The Email backup file contains 2 folders:
etc: here are the files containing settings and password of all the email account in your cPanel
mail: here are your email folders

-> Before uploading the files, create a zip of both etc and mail folders via File Manager
Upload the content of mail folder of your backup file into mail folder in your hosting: locate the same account name, containing the same folders and files, and simply replace them.

In case you need to recreate the account, do as follow:
– create a new email account with the same name
– upload the files from the mail folder of your backup, as in the previous step 2

DATABASE BACKUPS
Once generated, you’ll get the sql file. Very simple!

HOW TO RESTORE A DATABASE BACKUP
There are 2 ways:
1. Very simple: click “restore” next to the desired backup, and I will restore it automatically.
2. reinstall the downloaded sql file via Phpmyadmin.

CRONJOBS AND DNS BACKUP

If you know what DNS and Cron Jobs are, then you’ll be able to intuitively understand how to manage and restore these backups.
