How to install free SSL certificate on your domain with Let's Encrypt™ SSL

Free SSL Certificate: You need to keep your eyes open

How server and client (you) manage to communicate with each other.

When we visit a website or send (or receive) an email, what we do is put two electronic devices in communication: one is our PC/phone/tablet/etc and the other is the server, where the services are located ( web hosting and mail server) connected to the domain to which they belong, in this case easygreenhosting.com.

Everything passes through the internet.

We can imagine a very fast van full of goods that passes through various highways, toll booths, control stations and so on, to bring back and forth the information that server and client (our device) need to interact with each other.

These communication routes are used by all internet users and our special connection is established through an IP address, which is a unique number on the network that identifies servers and clients.

You, for example, are reading these words right now thanks to the server's recognition of your IP address and your device's recognition of the server's IP address.

Our pickup truck, just like on a real highway, will need to take the necessary precautions so as not to be attacked and robbed.

Translated into the client-server connection, this security is implemented with the use of a secure connection, i.e. with the https protocol.

HTTPS contro HTTP

When you need to publish links to your site, it will always be better to specify https:// in front of the website address, for example https://www.easygreenhosting.com and not http://www.easygreenhosting.com or just www.easygreenhosting.com.

This way the connection between client and server will be encrypted. What does it mean? It means that the code of the pages will be encoded and decoded using a unique encryption system and recognizable only by your device and server. Anyone else who picked up our communication online and read it would not be able to understand a thing.

HTTPS e SSL

We therefore arrive at SSL, Secure Socket Layer. The SSL certificate has the function of, precisely, certifying that the encryption system is authentic, i.e. that there are no other encryption systems that could create SSL connections between the server and the client.

The certificate is managed by an authority external to the server, which is able to verify that all permissions are in order.

Let's imagine we have to take a trip outside Europe: we will need a passport.
The passport certifies our identity, but who certifies the passport? Each passport contains the name of the authority that produced it and the electronic control with modern passports will contact that authority every time it is used for our travels.

As with the passport, the SSL certificate allows us to assure our browser that the encryption is performed correctly, with the scrutiny of the external authority of the verification system.
